The article sets out the results of a study on the learning of idiomatic expressions by students of Italian L2, A2 and B1 levels. Starting from a theoretical cognitive linguistics framework, the study aimed at verifying the potential role of an explicit analysis of conceptual metaphors in guessing the meaning of and in reutilising certain idiomatic expressions. The results seem to confirm, at least for level B1, that learning activities with particular characteristics (e.g., use of videos and images, dynamic feedback), created with the aid of digital technologies and aimed at encouraging the analysis of conceptual metaphors, can have positive effects on the learning of idiomatic expressions, both in reception and production.

Abstract
The article sets out the results of a study on the learning of idiomatic expressions by students of Italian L2, A2 and B1 levels. Starting from a theoretical cognitive linguistics framework, the study aimed at verifying the potential role of an explicit analysis of conceptual metaphors in guessing the meaning of and in reutilising certain idiomatic expressions. The results seem to confirm, at least for level B1, that learning activities with particular characteristics (e.g., use of videos and images, dynamic feedback), created with the aid of digital technologies and aimed at encouraging the analysis of conceptual metaphors, can have positive effects on the learning of idiomatic expressions, both in reception and production.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
