I costrutti iterativi nelle Cartinhas di Évora: strategie persuasive e mnemotecniche per l’evangelizzazione nell’impero portoghese nei secoli dell’espansione marittima

The iterative constructs in the Cartinhas of Évora : persuasive and mnemotechnical strategies for evangelization in the Portuguese empire in the centuries of maritime expansion · In the context of Portuguese language teaching, this contribution proposes a new perspective of analysis for the genre of the sixteenth-century syllabary, born and widespread in the Lusophone space during the centuries of maritime expansion, to literate and evangelize the natives of overseas colonies. Through the study of the 3 anonymous examples of Cartinha, preserved in the “Reservados” archive of the Biblioteca Pública de Évora (Portugal), cataloged with the collocation Res. 300, Res. 300 A and Res.300 B, we will examine, with a textual and rhetorical approach, the useof iterative rhetorical schemes within the religious texts. In fact, thesetechniques are used as mnemonics, that is as persuasive and metacognitivestrategies to encourage natives to learn the concepts exposedfor their conversion process and the internalization of the respectivelexical units.

Nell’ambito della glottodidattica del portoghese, il presente contributo propone una nuova prospettiva di analisi per il genere del sillabario cinquecentesco – nato e diffuso nello spazio lusofono durante i secoli dell’espansione marittima per alfabetizzare e evangelizzare i nativi delle colonie d’oltremare – attraverso lo studio dei 3 esemplari anonimi di Cartinha, conservati nell’archivio dei “Reservados” della Biblioteca Pública de Évora (Portogallo), catalogati con collocazione Res. 300, Res. 300 A e Res. 300 B. Privilegiando un approccio di stampo testuale e retorico, si esaminerà l’impiego degli schemi retorici iterativi come mnemotecniche all’interno dei testi religiosi presenti in ogni abbecedario, linee di intervento impiegate come strategie persuasive e metacognitive per incentivare nei discenti l’apprendimento dei concetti esposti utili per il processo di conversione e l’interiorizzazione delle rispettive etichette lessicali.
