The paper looks into instances of violence and trauma in two Latin American stories "El ojo Silva" by the Chilean Roberto Bolaño and "El torturator" by the Mexican José Emilio Pacheco. Through personal tragedies, the two short stories develop the of collective trauma and enable us to understand the nuances of after-effects of violent act that lead to trauma.
