This chapter presents the preliminary results of the 2020 excavation at the Arcisa in Chiusi (SI). The works for conservation and restoration of the old water house, just outside Porta Lavinia, have brought to light traces of continuous use of this area from the Early Iron Age to the Late Nineteenth century. A large cistern for collection of water was built here during the 9th century BCE and filled with soil and pottery fragments during the 8th century BCE. Two huts were built during the Orientalizing period. High-quality finds from the Early Iron Age cistern and the Orientalizing hut testify to the vitality of this part of the protourban settlement of Chiusi, that until now had been traditionally considered outside the perimeter of the city. While at the beginning of the 6th century BCE the huts were dismantled and a large building with regular travertine foundation was erected in the area, during the second half of the 5th century BCE two interconnected wells were excavated and marked the access to the cuniculi system of the ancient town. In the 4th century BCE a new building was added and part of its structure was reused for the modern water house.

Abstract
In the 4th century BCE a new building was added and part of its structure was reused for the modern water house.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
