The paper focuses on Eva Kant, the brilliant thief and co-leading character of the Italian comic Diabolik for over fifty years. While reconstructing the life-story of each of the two protagonists, the analysis focuses on the peculiarities of their love-story and on Eva's unique ability to reconcile the sphere of their secret and criminal life with that of the society. Contrary to her companion, Eva is able to be herself and relate to everyone, thanks to her sensitivity and intelligence, as well as her passionate curiosity for humanity. In this process Eva tackles the fundamental question of identity and of self-determination, a research pursued since her first appearance, a few issues after her companion. Eva is struggling for self-determination and for the right to be recognized both socially and privately: this struggle makes Eva Kant, a character created by two women, one of the most contemporary and extraordinary figures of the Italian comic tradition
