The article shows the enormous progress made in the field of lexical research in the last twenty years, mainly because of the advent of the Internet and in particular of Google Book Search, which has changed the world of lexicography especially for the search for backdating and for the historicization of lexemes. Google Book Search, however, was born with other intentions, and also for this reason it should be used with great caution, since its results are not always reliable. To exploit critically its potential, a number of initiatives regarding the lexicon have recently started, some under the aegis of the Accademia della Crusca, such as ArchiDATA and VoDIM, others independent, such as the «AVSI» scientific journal and the RALIP software. The article shows that the most profitable search methods are the integrated ones, which take advantage of the set of available resources and minimize the flaws of Google Book Search and manual search. To demonstrate the potential of this type of research, the paper backdates numerous deanthroponyms in the literary production of a famous modern Italian writer, Gabriele D’Annunzio, first step for subsequent backdatings through the Internet.

Abstract
To demonstrate the potential of this type of research, the paper backdates numerous deanthroponyms in the literary production of a famous modern Italian writer, Gabriele D’Annunzio, first step for subsequent backdatings through the Internet.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
