The epideictic works of Cyril of Turov are almost always closely connected with the liturgy and are full of allusions to it — in contrast to ascetic works, for example, the Tale of the Human Soul or the Tale of the Belorize. Nevertheless, almost every one of his sermons demonstrates some special method of using hymnographic borrowings. The sermon on Thomas Week is based on only one hymn of the corresponding service — the sedalen we have indicated, and the entire composition of this sermon is built around the chosen hymn. The sermon on Thomas Week, in addition, is an expanded interpretation of the reading assigned for this day — the Word on the Renewal of Gregory the Theologian. These features of the sermon seem unique in the context of the entire Easter cycle of sermons by Cyril of Turov and the epideictics of Kievan Rus in general.
