The paper presents the preliminary results of the 2022 and 2023 campaigns by the Uzbek-Italian Archaeological Project “Samarkand and Its Territory”. The survey focused on the Karatyube foothill between the villages of Mirankul and Ochalbulok. New research at the site of Kafir Kala included: i) the excavation of the necropolis (KK-6) at the entrance of the site, and a 10 x 10 m area in the south shahristan, which both resulted in the discovery of an unknown occupation dated to the Timurid period; ii) the restoration of the damaged architecture on the citadel (KK-1); iii) the reopening of the test trenches around it (KK-3); the beginning of the KALAM project, aimed at the creation of an archaeological park through the engagement of local communities.
