This chapter (which is part of a book devoted to the language of mass media in Italy) offers an analysis of the Italian language, as it is represented in one century of Italian film productions. Using a division in periods of around 15 years each, the Author discusses the linguistic variation due to the parameter of time, with a clear evolution from the first dialogues inspired by literature and theatre, to the most recent productions that try to mirror contemporary spoken language. Secondly the Author illustrates the increasing presence of regional varieties, of other languages and of a non-native pronunciation of Italian, due to the most recent social changes. The analysis of Italian non-verbal communication and of other media gives the opportunity to investigate on written and oral language, but also on the language of radio, TV and internet, as they are represented in Italian films. Finally, the Author presents the diaphasic variation, with examples of formal and informal language, euphemisms and bad words that indicate a deep change in the communicative means of Italian cinema during the last 100 years.
Il capitolo (inserito in un volume sulla lingua dei mass media in Italia) analizza la lingua italiana secondo le sue rappresentazioni in un secolo di produzioni cinematografiche. Usando una divisone in periodi di circa 15 anni ciascuno, l’Autrice discute la variazione diacronica, che mostra una chiara evoluzione dai primi dialoghi ispirati dalla letteratura e dal teatro alle produzioni più recenti che cercano di rispecchiare la lingua parlata contemporanea. In secondo luogo l’Autrice illustra la crescente presenza delle varietà regionali, di altre lingue e di pronunce non native dell’italiano, dovute ai grandi cambiamenti sociali degli ultimi decenni. Nei film di produzione italiana è rappresentata anche la comunicazione non verbale e quella utilizzata da altri media (lingua scritta e orale, della radio, della televisione, di internet), mostrando una evoluzione anche dal punto di vista della variazione diamesica. Infine l’Autrice studia la variazione diafasica, con esempi di lingua formale e informale, eufemismi e turpiloquio, che indicano un profondo cambiamento nei mezzi comunicativi del cinema italiano degli ultimi 100 anni.
