"Attorno al relitto arcaico di Campese all’Isola del Giglio (GR): dal diario di bordo del Progetto Seascape"

This paper presents the results of the 2020-2021 “Seascape Project” at the Isle of Giglio, carried out by the Soprintendenza Archeologia, belle arti e paesaggio for the provinces of Siena, Grosseto and Arezzo. This project focused on different areas on the coast of the island and combined underwater archaeology with inland excavations, with the aim of providing new tools for the preservation of the archaeological heritage of the island. Roman evidence has been excavated and studied at the so-called fish tanks of Giglio Porto and east of the Roman harbour, where the discovery of a series of granite columns probably testifies to a previously unknown shipwreck. The excavations and surveys in the area of Campese, at the Castellare and where the famous Archaic shipwreck of Pignocchi was excavated by Mensun Bound in the Eighties, allowed us for the first time to merge these evidence into the Etruscan seascape of the coast.
