This chapter deals with the deictic and anaphoric domain in Latin. It shows how deixis focalizes the feature of person (mainly in its pronominal manifestations), both when it appears overtly (as in personal pronouns) and when it is a covert feature (as in demonstrative pronouns). The tripartition of the Latin demonstrative system is described according to a hierarchical analysis of the opposition between person and non-person, and a split of the ego is suggested according to texts-types. As for endophora, in addition to the endophoric use of demonstrative pronouns, the chapter deals with the determinative is, ea, id, with the reflexive pronoun (describing the nature of its antecedent and long-distance structures) and with the specific features of idem and ipse. Throughout the chapter, diachronic developments are brought into discussion, and some final notes are devoted to the paths which lead to the genesis of article and clitics.

Abstract
Throughout the chapter, diachronic developments are brought into discussion, and some final notes are devoted to the paths which lead to the genesis of article and clitics.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
