This article investigates Jeanette Winterson's novel Art & Lies: A Piece fo Three Voices and a Bawd (1997) in which she narrates the complex interaction between language and corporeality. The British contemporary writer puts on stage the complex interaction between language and it dead metaphors in connetion to cultural bodily performances. The semantic ambiguities of language are, in my analysis, parallel to the uniqueness of bodily percepctions. In particular, I investigate how the connection between construction of language and the construction of gender and sexual identities of the three protagonists of the novel is carried out in the novel .

Abstract

This article investigates Jeanette Winterson's novel Art & Lies: A Piece fo Three Voices and a Bawd (1997) in which she narrates the complex interaction between language and corporeality. The British contemporary writer puts on stage the complex interaction between language and it dead metaphors in connetion to cultural bodily performances. The semantic ambiguities of language are, in my analysis, parallel to the uniqueness of bodily percepctions. In particular, I investigate how the connection between construction of language and the construction of gender and sexual identities of the three protagonists of the novel is carried out in the novel .
