Il volgare pisano nel Quattrocento

The volume reviews the changes that came about to the Pisan vernacular ("volgare") in a century, the 15th one, which marked the end of the independence of the ancient maritime Republic. The Florentine military conquest leaves profound and longlasting traces not only on the social, economic and demographic structure of the subjugated city – with the confinement or the exile of a lot of members of influential families and the concurrent inflow of merchants from Florence - but also on a linguistic level, in which there comes about a fragmentation of the compact situation of the dialect of the 13th-14th century. The linguistic influence of Florence, brought about by the inexorable pair of the force of the arms and of the cultural prestige, and the consequent fading of the ancient local idiom are clearly noticeable in the series of missives here reproduced that also offer a human portraying of the condition of the Pisan merchants in the aftermath of the loss of their freedom.

Il volume analizza i cambiamenti che si sono prodotti nel volgare pisano durante un secolo, il Quattrocento, che ha segnato la fine dell'indipendenza dell'antica repubblica marinara. La conquista militare fiorentina lascia profonde e durature tracce non solo nell'assetto sociale, economico e demografico della città assoggettata – con il confinamento o l'esilio di molti membri di famiglie che erano state influenti e il contemporaneo afflusso di mercanti da Firenze – ma anche sul piano linguistico, in cui si assiste alla frammentazione della compatta situazione dialettale due-trecentesca. L'influsso linguistico di Firenze, trasmesso dall'inarrestabile binomio costituito da forza delle armi e prestigio culturale, e la conseguente scoloritura dell'antico idioma locale sono avvertibili distintamente nella serie di missive qui riprodotte, che offrono anche uno spaccato umano della condizione dei mercanti pisani all'indomani della perduta libertà.
