The volume introduces the experience of Mother Ramacciotti, who founded, organized and brought forth what was called by herself "the City of the Girls"; Ramacciotti intended to show that it is possible to release the weak sujects from the determinism of the social disadvantage through a conceived educational intervention realized according to respectful formality of the subjects taken in load, from cognitive side as well as the affective ones, inspiring herself to nowadays shared methodological principles, but entirely innovative in our country at her time. In the texst it is underlined through letters and documents how much Mother Dominique Ramacciotti is aware that education is never neither purely instrumental, neither purely neutral. It is fundamental the context in which the education is furnished, the subjects that impart it, the places, the finalities, the conditions; and the motivations of the subject involved are important, its personal history, its level of personal education and the image that he has of himself. The female education is exalted as tool of emancipation from the rigidity of the social codified by the tradition roles, and it is valorized in its manifold facets: moment of personal and professional growth, mean for integration in the social reality and condition to practice the liberty of personal choise in real autonomy, opportunity break closed and poor family models, necessary and essential patrimony claim individual rights, to overcome every barrier, to widen the horizons of thought and life
