Beyond the statutes. The legal and administrative structure between Split and Venice

The paper aims to analyze the relations between Venice and Split in the late Middle Ages in the terms of legal, administrative and judicial policy. The survey will revolve mainly around the issues of law and justice. From both, indeed, the process of setting and adjustment of the structure of power was carried out; policies of pacification of conflicts and of civil coexistence took shape; the local ruling groups developed their own projects of hegemony; Venice, for its part, set up its own designs of order, supremacy and control. Justice and the law also represented, starting from the statutes of 1312, an essential opportunity to give strength and legitimacy to the connections between the capital and the Dalmatian commune.
