This paper examines the role of grammatical reflection in the teaching of Italian as a second language (L2) in light of the debate that, since the late 1970s, has reshaped the concept of grammar and the function of metalinguistic competence. Through an analysis of Italian L2 textbooks published over the last decade, the study investigates the extent to which these theoretical developments have influenced teaching practice. The findings provide an overview of current approaches to language awareness activities and offer insights into strategies for enhancing the effectiveness of teaching and learning processes.
Il contributo analizza il ruolo della riflessione grammaticale nell’insegnamento dell’italiano L2 alla luce del dibattito che, dagli anni Settanta, ha ridefinito il concetto di grammatica e la funzione della competenza metalinguistica. Attraverso un’indagine su manuali didattici pubblicati nell’ultimo decennio, lo studio verifica in che misura tali sviluppi teorici abbiano influenzato la pratica didattica. I risultati delineano le modalità attuali di conduzione della riflessione linguistica e offrono spunti per migliorare l’efficacia dei percorsi formativi e dell’azione didattica.
