The volume presents a critical edition, with an annotated translation from Japanese and a glossary, of the following short stories by Niimi Nankichi (1913-1943): Gongitsune (1932), Saigo no kokyūhiki (1939), Ojīsan no ranpu (1942), Tebukuro o kai ni (1943) and Hyakushō no ashi, bōsan no ashi (1943). The Postfazione (Afterword, pp. 97-123) frames the stories contained in the volume within the author's general production, making ample use in the commentary of the translation of Niimi Nanckichi's diaries, which have never before been translated into Western languages.
